Amy is a process-oriented abstract artist from Wichita, Kansas. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Wichita State University in 2020, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History from the University of Kansas in 2014. Her work is the result of a meditative artistic practice through which she copes with and heals from unmet expectation from a former mindset of perfectionism.
The art is a visual record, documenting the rhythm and passage of time spent becoming, via repetitive and active mark making. The marks are a metaphor. One step, one small choice, doing the same thing repeatedly, everyday… It might feel like no progress is being made, but then a day comes when it is clear just how much transformation has taken place.
Amy is inspired either visually or conceptually by artists and movements like Agnes Martin, Y.Z. Kami, Ann Hamilton, El Anatsui, Anni Albers, Australian Aboriginal Art, and Abstract Expressionism.
